So apparently someone thought it'd be fun to hack my site and mess it up. Links didn't work and pages were broken. It was lame, but not surprising. People do mean things just for the sake of doing it and that's the world we live in. It's wonderful, really. If any of you tried to comment I apologize, they killed my cutenews too. That was probably the most annoying part to fix.
Also if you were on my advertised list I lost some of the banners due to all of this, so E-mail me and I'll add you back on.
So I have decided to add more things for people to use (layouts, backgrounds, etc.). I figure, maybe I can bribe people to come here for stuff and hopefully they'll get sidetracked by the important things I'm trying to get out. If you've come here before, then you know this site is more about trying to change things more than anything else. And with that on to the bigger picture…
We live in a messed up world and it's time for us to fix it. People, including young people (that means you), need to start caring or soon enough there will be nothing to care about.
Girls, ask yourself about how much information you know about celebrities and the entertainment industry. I bet it's a substantial amount isn't it? You can probably list J Lo's husbands and Britney's breakdowns. Now ask yourself how much you know about your own rights. Your equality. Do you know that women tend to only make 70% of what men make for doing the same job? That there are tons of medications and funds going into research for heart disease in men, but barely anything for women? Or how about the fact that half the prescriptions for Viagra are covered by insurance, but not birth control?
Guys aren't off the hook either here. I'm sure you are well aware of what's going on in Hollywood as well, but what do you know about your society? The media has been eating at women telling them they have to fit a certain mold to be beautiful for decades, but the same stereotypes exist for men as well. To be an attractive guy you need a six pack, nice tan, and muscles, right? Or maybe you're finding that it's difficult to get a job right now but look at all those jobs that Nike and all the other companies are sending overseas.
The problem is we don't care about something until it affects us, even then there's a nice chance we don't even realize these social problems are affecting us. We act like we know what's going on and take sides on social issues but just because you've picked a side doesn't mean you know anything about it. You can be pro-life when it comes to abortion but do you see what rights it takes away from women? You can be pro-choice, but do you understand the stages of the baby growing inside the womb and the techniques abortionists use to kill them?
If people knew half as much about social problems as they do celebrities, we'd be a lot better off. People need to care about what's going on, not who's coming out with a new CD next week. Take time to look into these issues, you'd be surprised by the things you find. Care about what's going on in your society because it affects you.
Now, I'm not saying don't bother with T.V. and all that fun stuff anymore. I'm saying take a little time out of that and read about things that matter. Is this really a world you'd want to bring kids into, or wouldn't you want something better? It's hard to change things, but it's not impossible and the first step in creating change is educating yourself.
